Looking southwards, along the North Sea Wall, to Ness Point - the most easterly part of the UK mainland. The presence of the Gulliver wind-turbine and the Orbis Energy Centre building just beyond it reminds us of Lowestoft’s role in the new world of renewable supplies of electricity - though it seems ironic that the turbine itself never seems to have its blades turning sufficiently to make any notable contribution to the National Grid.

A different kind of warning light from that referred to in Beacon Stones, with safety at sea the main consideration rather than warning of attack by an enemy.

Meetings are open to non-members by invitation only; interested persons should contact the Hon Secretary. The society records the history of the port of Lowestoft and collects all relative material.

The Society has a collection of 13,000 photographic prints and index cards of vessels that were built in, owned at or visited Lowestoft. The collection is housed in the Lowestoft branch of the Suffolk Record Office.

As a direct result of the climate emergency declaration, a cross-party Environment Task Group was established to analyse policies inherited from East Suffolk’s predecessor’s (Suffolk Coastal and Waveney District Councils) to ensure these policies are fit for purpose and identify areas for improvement.

The Environment Task Group meets quarterly, reporting to Cabinet where issues are then discussed to decide if a feasibility study is required.

By adopting a climate emergency, the council has begun to thread the environment through all decisions, choices and policy formation.

Over the years I have volunteered and worked in the local community and enjoy putting something back into society and helping others. I have great personal satisfaction in volunteering to be a bell ringer in Hollesley and I was honoured recently to be invited to the join the Suffolk Guild of Ringers.

Having always been aware of the natural world, I appreciate the Deben ward is a special area to live and work.
