Bulky Waste Free Collection and Disposal Scheme
Sometimes we have big household items which we need to replace. Quite often the replacements are second-hand, and households are left with large things which are difficult to get rid of, especially if you don't have access to a van or a trailer or something. And so sometimes they get dumped in back alleys or on the street. Fly-tipping. No one wants that.
Lowestoft Town Council has a remedy. They are funding a trial scheme 'Bulky Waste Free Collection and Disposal' service.
Despite only starting 6 weeks ago (Nov 1st 2023) Ace Clearance tell us that this popular scheme has been used over 100 times and they have had to limit it (max 3 items at a time and no more than once a month) providing faireness to everyone. Congratulations to LTC and all concerned!
It should be welcomed. It's a simple scheme: ring this number 01502 802123 or email to
info.aceclearance@gmail.com) if you have something big (max 3 items) you need to get rid of.
Background
The scheme arose out of a multi-council group – Environment and Waste – set up to look at ways to improve our Lowestoft living environment. It proved a little unwieldy, and perhaps too ambitious for its self-set remit. However, from it came the idea for some kind of free bulky waste scheme. The 'free' is important, as East Suffolk Council make a charge (around £47), and the group felt this made it difficult for some households to dispose of large domestic items.
Over a period of two years, the original group faded away, but a small dedicated group, (original idea was Danny Steeles. Also Louise Gooch, Wendy Brookes and Peter Byatt, both ESC District councillors, remained seriously involved until LTC approved) slogged away at the scheme, and eventually got a viable and funded project in place.
A good effort indeed. CREDIT: John Ellerby
